Vol. 554 No. 5

Written Answers. - Decentralisation Programme.

Dan Neville

Ceist:

435 Mr. Neville asked the Minister for Finance the position regarding decentralisation to the integrated Shannon decentralisation network proposed towns of Newcastle West, Kilrush and Listowel. [16890/02]

John Deasy

Ceist:

446 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Finance the progress which has been made in relation to the programme for decentralisation; when he expects to make his decisions in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17220/02]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 435 and 446 together.

As I have stated before in the House, the Government is committed to moving forward the progressive decentralisation of Government offices and agencies, taking account of the national spatial strategy. There are a wide range of important issues which must be taken into consideration in making decisions in relation to the programme of decentralisation. I am not, as yet, able to say when I expect the Government to be in a position to take such decisions. While I also cannot comment on the likelihood of any particular location being included in the programme, Deputies may rest assured that all submissions and representations will be taken into account as part of the deliberative process.
