Vol. 554 No. 5

Written Answers. - School Transport.

John McGuinness

Ceist:

546 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Education and Science if school transport will be provided for a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny; and if a response to this query can be expedited. [15861/02]

Under existing Department guidelines, primary school pupils who reside less than 1.5 miles from a bus route to their appropriate school are considered to have a reasonable level of service.

The pupil, to whom the Deputy refers, resides 1.4 miles from the bus route to his appropriate school and is considered to have a service within guidelines. In the circumstances it is not open to my Department to extend/re-route the existing service, which would incur additional cost, for the pupil in question.
