Vol. 554 No. 5

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Paddy McHugh

Ceist:

563 Mr. McHugh asked the Minister for Education and Science if school transport will be made available to children attending Belmont national school, Miltown, County Galway, who are in the catchment area of Miltown national school, County Galway. [15988/02]

The position is that only eligible children qualify for free transport. In order to be eligible, primary school children must live at least two miles from, and be attending, their nearest national school or school of amalgamation.

Concessionary fare paying transport may be allowed to children attending Belmont national school from Miltown school area provided the written agreement of Miltown national school is obtained and there are spare places available on an existing service. Concessions, if granted, do not extend to anyone other than those for whom agreement is obtained, nor is there any implied commitment to allow a similar concession to other children.
