Vol. 554 No. 5

Written Answers. - Special Educational Needs.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

600 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science if the North Kildare Education Centre group at Ballymakealy, Celbridge, County Kildare will receive an extra resource teacher to assist a person (details supplied) in County Kildare who has dyslexia; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

My Department has not received an application for resource teacher support from the school in question.

My officials have been in contact with the school authorities in relation to the needs of the person to whom the Deputy refers. I understand that the school is awaiting a psychological assessment report on the pupil and that an application for support will be submitted when this report comes to hand. All applications for a resource teacher service must be supported by a professional assessment report setting out the needs of the child.

Questions Nos. 601 and 602 answered with Question No. 536.
