Vol. 554 No. 5

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Martin Ferris

Ceist:

629 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for Education and Science if he intends to review the current regulations governing concessionary bus fares for school children in view of the large numbers of children who live just under the current three mile limit. [16421/02]

To be eligible for transport under the post-primary school transport scheme a pupil must live three miles or more from their appropriate post primary education centre.

Pupils living under the current limit may avail of transport on payment of the term fee subject to accommodation being available on the school bus service and no additional costs incurred.

The provision of school transport services are re-viewed on a regular basis by my Department and while there are no plans at present to reduce the three mile limit, the Deputy will be informed should such a change be proposed.
