Vol. 554 No. 5

Written Answers. - School Accommodation.

Jim O'Keeffe

Ceist:

631 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the fact that a Gaelscoil (details supplied) is an eight teacher school with 150 pupils housed in a three storey converted furniture workshop, which is a fire safety hazard and that there are many other problems associated with the present building, which render it entirely unsuitable and unsafe for use as a primary school; and if, in view of the fact that an alternative location at Wolfe Tone Park, Bantry is now available, his Department will make immediate arrangements to sanction the necessary work and approve the finance in order that arrangements for the transfer of the school to the new location can be put in hand straight away. [16451/02]

The planning and building unit of my Department is currently examining a number of proposals on how best to provide suitable accommodation for the school referred to by the Deputy and will be contact with the school's management authorities as soon as possible.
