Vol. 554 No. 5

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Richard Bruton

Ceist:

751 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science the planning which he has undertaken in relation to the provision of services at St. Joseph's, Gracepark Road for the development of a national centre for the visually impaired; the specific services which he is planning and the dates in which he hopes to be in a position to complete the delivery of these programmes. [17397/02]

Arising from the report of the planning group, which was established to consider proposals for the development of a National Cen tre for the Visually Impaired, my Department engaged a project team to consider an overall development strategy for the implementation of the planning groups report. The report of the project team is expected shortly. Decisions on specific services and timeframes cannot be made until the report of the project team has been received and considered.

Ned O'Keeffe

Ceist:

752 Mr. N. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding a primary school project (details supplied) in County Cork. [17408/02]

Architectural planning for a building project at the school referred to by the Deputy is at an advanced stage. Decisions on projects proceeding to tender and construction are taken in the light of the annual allocation for primary school buildings, the financial commitments to be met and the priority to be afforded to individual projects.

My Department has an extensive primary school building programme for 2002 under way at present, details of which are available on my Departments website at www.education.ie. It is not envisaged that the proposed building project at the school in question will proceed to construction in 2002. Later this year, when a financial allocation has been made for the primary school building programme in the 2003 Estimates, I will be framing a further comprehensive programme of works that will proceed to construction and the school concerned will be one of those considered for inclusion in that programme. My Department will be in contact with the schools concerned when the programme for 2003 is published.
