Vol. 554 No. 5

Written Answers. - Voluntary-Community Organisations.

Mary Upton

Ceist:

823 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources if, in line with the Government White Paper, Supporting Voluntary Activity, he has appointed a voluntary activity unit responsible for his Department's co-operation with voluntary and community organisations; if so, the unit's personnel, activities and work to date; if not, the reason therefor; and the personnel in his Department responsible for co-operation with voluntary and community organisations. [16737/02]

The White Paper on a Framework for Supporting Voluntary Activity recommended that relevant Departments which have significant contact with the community and voluntary sector designate a voluntary activity support unit. My Department is committed to ensuring the application of community development principles of participation and inclusion where relevant and appropriate to the business areas including consultation with relevant representative groups. Commensurate with the Department's degree of contact with the community and voluntary sector, the process will continue to be overseen and coordinated by the corporate planning and finance division.
