Vol. 554 No. 5

Written Answers. - Services for People with Disabilities.

John McGuinness

Ceist:

1078 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason the occupational therapist's report relative to an application under the disabled persons grant scheme in the name of a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny, did not specify a full heating system given the fact that this person has multiple sclerosis; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16267/02]

As I have previously informed the Deputy, the provision of the disabled persons grant to enable housing modifications to be made to the homes of disabled persons is entirely a matter for the Department of Environment and Local Government and such grants are administered through the relevant local authority. Use of health board staff, for example, occupational therapists, to provide assessments for this scheme is a matter for discussion between the relevant local authorities and health boards.

A copy of the of the Deputy's question has been referred to the chief executive officer of the South Eastern Health Board for his attention and direct reply to the Deputy.
