Vol. 554 No. 5

Written Answers. - Driving Licences.

Michael Noonan

Ceist:

1234 Mr. Noonan asked the Minister for Transport the situation in respect of the renewal of a driving licence to a person (details supplied) in Limerick whose present licence will expire while he is travelling abroad for a three month period, and who will have left the country prior to the one month period before which he can apply; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15694/02]

Under the Road Traffic Act, 1961, and the Road Traffic (Licensing of Drivers) Regulations, 1999 to 2001, it is a matter for the appropriate licensing authority, in this case Limerick County Council, to determine the eligibility of a person for a driving licence and to issue licences. I understand that the licensing authority is making arrangements to facilitate the making of an application for renewal of the driving licence by the person concerned.
