Vol. 554 No. 5

Written Answers. - Galway Car Pound.

Pádraic McCormack

Ceist:

1326 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if the resources will be provided to An Garda Síochána in Galway to facilitate the establishment of a car pound to enable the Garda to take unlicensed and uninsured cars from joyriders in view of the fact that there is no provision currently at the Garda barracks; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15405/02]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that vehicles seized by the Garda in Galway are currently retained at Galway City Station but that the amount of space available for this purpose is limited.

I am also informed that in the context of addressing the accommodation needs of the station it is intended to provide a secure compound for up to one hundred seized vehicles, subject to enough space being available.
