Vol. 554 No. 5

Written Answers. - Road Traffic Offences.

Seán Crowe

Ceist:

1351 Mr. Crowe asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of convictions which have been obtained within the past two years against holders of provisional licences for dangerous driving or driving under the influence; and the proportion of total such convictions this constitutes. [15809/02]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that that the statistics sought by the Deputy in relation to the number of convictions which have been obtained against the holders of provisional licences are not compiled separately. It would require a disproportionate amount of Garda time and resources to compile which could not be justified.

However, the total number of convictions obtained against all drivers for the offences concerned for each of the past two years are set out below.

Offence

2000

2001*

Convictions for dangerous driving

2209

2132*

Convictions for drink driving offences

6593

6790*

*2001 figures are provisional.
