Vol. 554 No. 5

Written Answers. - Court Proceedings.

John Perry

Ceist:

1359 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will make a statement on correspondence from a person (details supplied) in County Cork. [15900/02]

Finian McGrath

Ceist:

1366 Mr. F. McGrath asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the position regarding a person (details supplied) in County Cork; and if action will be taken to prevent the situation getting worse. [16068/02]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 1359 and 1366 together.

The courts are, subject only to the Constitution and the law, independent in the exercise of their judicial functions and therefore it is not open to me to comment or intervene in any way in relation to how a particular case was conducted or the outcome of any such proceedings. These are matters entirely for the presiding judge and it would be inappropriate for me, as Minister, to comment or intervene in such matters.
