Vol. 554 No. 5

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Denis Naughten

Ceist:

1395 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if, in view of the consultant's report on the revision of Garda boundaries, he will ensure that the Roscommon-East Galway division is retained; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16648/02]

As the Deputy will appreciate, the day-to-day management and control of the Garda Síochána, including proposals for revising divisional boundaries, are matters, in the first instance, for the Garda authorities. I am informed by the Garda authorities that there are no plans at present to change the divisional boundaries of Roscommon/Galway East. However, more generally the revision of district and divisional boundaries is being considered as part of a major ongoing review of Garda organisational structures under the Strategic Management Initiative programme of modernisation. The outcome of that review will be submitted for consideration by Government when completed.

Jack Wall

Ceist:

1396 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if the Naeeaghmore and Kilrush areas, Athy, County Kildare who are covered by the Garda from Baltinglass division, could now come under the jurisdiction of Athy Garda Síochana; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16651/02]

As the Deputy will appreciate, the day-to-day management and control of the Garda Síochána, including proposals for revising district boundaries, are matters, in the first instance, for the Garda authorities. I am informed by the Garda authorities that they have no proposals to alter the sub-district boundaries in the Naeeaghmore and Kilrush areas.
