Vol. 554 No. 5

Written Answers. - Garda Stations.

Emmet Stagg

Ceist:

1429 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform his proposals to appoint additional civilian staff to Garda stations in County Kildare to enable gardaí to be deployed in the community rather than carrying out civilian work; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17450/02]

I can confirm that my Department has received an application for one additional clerical officer post for Kildare town Garda station. A request for necessary sanction was made to the Department of Finance in this regard.

I should point out that my Department must operate within the authorised number of civilian staff sanctioned by the Department of Finance for the Garda area. Consequently, neither my Department nor the Garda Síochána is at liberty to create additional civilian posts without specific sanction.
