In addition, the personnel strength of Kill, Kilcullen and Monasterevin Garda stations on 8 October 2002 and for the past five years is one sergeant and two gardaí. Ballymore Eustace and Ballytore Garda stations have a current personnel strength of one Garda each. This has been the case as at 31 December each year for the last five years.

Emmet Stagg

Ceist:

1431 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the current Garda personnel strength by rank in the Carlow-Kildare division for the past five years; and if he will make a statement on the matter in view of the publi cation of the preliminary 2002 census population figures for the area concerned. [17452/02]

I have been informed by the Garda authorities, who are responsible for the day to day allocation of resources, including personnel, within the Garda Síochána, that the strength, by rank, in the Carlow-Kildare Garda division as at 31 December for each of the past five years and at present is as follows:

The Garda authorities have further advised that the allocation of personnel to the Carlow-Kildare division will be kept under review and when additional personnel next become available the needs of that division will be fully considered within the overall context of needs of the Garda divisions throughout the country.

Emmet Stagg

Ceist:

1432 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will upgrade Maynooth Garda station to a district headquarters, thus providing 24 hour cover in at least one of the main towns in north County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17453/02]

I have been informed by the Garda authorities, who are responsible for the day to day allocation of resources, including personnel, within the Garda Síochána, that the personnel strength of Maynooth Garda station – all ranks – as at 8 October 2002 is 14.

I am further informed that Maynooth Garda station is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Saturday and from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday. When the station is not open, a public access call box and call diversion system are in operation and linked to the district headquarters at Naas Garda station. A message is then relayed to the patrol car at Maynooth to attend to the call. There are no proposals at present to upgrade Maynooth Garda station to a district headquarters.

Question No. 1433 answered with Question No. 1379.
