John McGuinness

Ceist:

1450 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the amount of money spent on a number of sites (details supplied) in County Kilkenny since 1999; and the work to be undertaken in 2002-03. [15399/02]

The expenditure since 1999 and the programme of works for 2002-03 at the sites in question is set out in the following table:

Grangefertagh Tower

Routine Maintenance will continue to be carried out at this site. There are no specific proposals for 2002-2003.

Kells Priory

€44,829

Money has been made available under the NDP for conservation work at Kells Priory. This work entails conservation of masonry structures and site presentation. Work is due to commence shortly and will continue through 2003.

Dunmore Caves

€1,237,978

The expenditure to date covers the erection of a new visitor centre. An exhibition of the caves features and history will be installed in the centre. This will commence this year and will be completed in 2003. An overhaul of the caves lighting system is being planned and a specification is being prepared. It is intended, depending on the extent of the work required, to complete this work later this year or in 2003.

Tullaherin Tower

€33,688

An engineer's structural report will be completed in 2002 and conservation and stabilisation works are expected to commence in 2003.

Clara Castle

€3,099

Routine Maintenance will continue to be carried out at this site. There are no specific proposals for 2002-2003.
