Vol. 556 No. 3

Written Answers. - Departmental Offices.

Seymour Crawford

Ceist:

212 Mr. Crawford asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the reason structures (details supplied) cannot be made available in every DVO here in order that farmers or their agents can see their maps and other information and be in a position to deal with problem files or queries instantaneously rather than protracted negotiations between all the different offices, especially for older, less educated farmers; his proposals to establish such structures; when such a system will be in operation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19830/02]

The information the Deputy refers to, except mapping information, is currently being made available to all local offices, including our regional offices at Castlebar and Portlaoise. The last office will be completed this week. The provision of access to mapping information is being tested at present to ensure that it does not interfere with other network traffic to these offices. Deployment to our local offices will begin as soon as testing is completed. It was simpler to deploy the facilities provided at the National Ploughing Championships in Ballacolla, County Laois, in September, since there were no other IT facilities involved. In the case of Clontibret and Ballymacscanlon, standalone versions of the old land parcel information system were deployed in these locations at the time. Accordingly, there was no network traffic and therefore no impact on other IT facilities at these temporary offices.
