269 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Finance if his Department has additional parcels of land in the immediate vicinity of a location (details supplied) in Dublin 24, excluding the existing Garda station; his plans to extend this Garda station which has been a long-standing commitment of his Department; the likely timeframe involved for the construction of this extension; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Charlie O'Connor

Ceist:

291 Mr. O'Connor asked the Minister for Finance if he will seek from the Office of Public Works, a full report on the potential for development at the Tallaght Garda station site, outlining future plans for the site; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that those working in the station providing services for the public, are doing so in very cramped conditions and that parking for the public is non-existent; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20194/02]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 268, 269 and 291 together.

The Office of Public Works is continuing to research proposals to maximise the development potential of the site of Tallaght Garda station as an urban campus for Departments. The redevelopment will include a new Garda station building which will meet all current and future requirements of the Garda. There are no other parcels of land in State ownership in the vicinity of the existing Garda station site. Discussions are ongoing with Dublin South County Council to determine the most advantageous way for the State to develop this most valuable property. It is expected that these discussions will be concluded in the near future and that initial development proposals will be ready for consideration by the Commissioners of Public Works early in 2003. Improvement of the facilities for the gardaí at Tallaght is a priority for my office and for the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform. Facilities such as parking for the public will form part of the redevelopment proposals.
