Vol. 556 No. 3

Written Answers. - Flood Relief.

Billy Timmins

Ceist:

302 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Finance if funding will be made available for flood relief works in Arklow, County Wicklow; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20618/02]

The Office of Public Works agreed to provide funding for the town council for a feasibility report on flooding in Arklow. That report was completed earlier this year and presented to the town council. The report contains a number of short-term recommendations for alleviating flooding in the town and also recommends implementation of a flood relief scheme. As all available funding is currently committed to other schemes, the Office of Public Works is not in a position to provide funding for a scheme in Arklow. This position may be reconsidered when the Estimates for 2003 are determined. The Office of Public Works has advised the town council that implementation and funding of the short-term recommendations of the feasibility report are a matter for the town council and/or the county council. The Office of Public Works will, of course, provide technical advice if required.
