Vol. 556 No. 3

Written Answers. - Military Matters.

Conor Lenihan

Ceist:

309 Mr. C. Lenihan asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will communicate with the British Government regarding the need to extend a posthumous pardon to the Irish victims of summary execution in the First World War. [19844/02]

I would welcome the opportunity for my officials to enter a dialogue on this issue with either the relatives of those concerned or their representatives. I understand that the UK branch of the Shot at Dawn campaign, which campaigns for pardons for soldiers who were subject to summary execution while serving in the British Army during the First World War, has brought similar cases to the attention of the British Government, and I will be asking our embassy in London to look into this matter and provide us with more information.
