Vol. 556 No. 3

Written Answers. - School Transport.

John McGuinness

Ceist:

323 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Education and Science if school transport will be provided in the case of a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny; and if the bus route which comes close to this person's home can be re-routed to accommodate this person. [19707/02]

The position in this case is as outlined in my reply to the Deputy's question, reference No. 15861/02, of 9 October 2002. The pupil to whom the Deputy refers resides 1.4 miles from the bus route to his appropriate school and is considered to have a service within guidelines. It is not open to my Department to extend or re-route the service for the pupil concerned, as extra cost would be involved. However, there is a facility available whereby parents of eligible children can pay for an extension of service if they so wish. If the family wish to avail of this facility they may contact my Department's school transport section, Clonminch, Tullamore, County Offaly.
