Vol. 556 No. 3

Written Answers. - Pension Provisions.

Brian O'Shea

Ceist:

386 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education and Science his proposals to grant credit for years of service in private primary schools for incremental and pension purposes to teachers who were either qualified as primary or secondary teachers when they gave this service; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20207/02]

Revised criteria for the award of incremental credit to teachers in respect of previous teaching experience are the subject of an agreed report, now implemented, of the Teachers Conciliation Council. This agreement provides for the award of credit in respect of teaching service in private primary schools that meet certain agreed criteria. The amended scheme for the award of incremental credit, in consolidated form, has been circulated to all primary and post-primary schools and is available on my Department's website. Service given in private primary schools, as with all service given in the private sector, is not reckonable for pensions purposes under the teachers' superannuation schemes.
