Vol. 556 No. 3

Written Answers. - Infectious Diseases.

Olivia Mitchell

Ceist:

484 Ms O. Mitchell asked the Minister for Health and Children the specific regulations in place or contemplated by his Department to ensure that public health is protected in all live stage performances in view of the apparent absence of any boundaries on human behaviour in some live performances; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19765/02]

I am not aware of any risks to public health from live stage performances and I have no plans to introduce specific regulations in that regard.

Under the Infectious Diseases Regulations, 1981, health boards are empowered where there is reason to believe that a suspected case of an infectious disease or a probable source of infection exists, to take such steps as are necessary or desirable for investigating the nature and source of such infection, for preventing the spread of such infection and for removing conditions favourable to infection.

If the Deputy has concerns in relation to a specific live stage performance and provides me with the details, I will have the matter investigated.
