Vol. 556 No. 3

Written Answers. - Community Policing.

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

627 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when arrangements will be put in place by his Department to administer the mainstreaming of the community policing forum, in the north-east inner city, Dublin 1; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20152/02]

The community policing and estate management forum was established as a pilot project by the Dublin north inner city local drugs task force and is funded under the national drugs strategy initiative. During its ongoing pilot phase, funding continues to be channelled to the project through the Department of Environment and Local Government. I am aware that a formal external evaluation of the project has now taken place. Furthermore, I am informed that, following this evaluation and in line with the standard procedures involved in this process, the national drugs strategy team will address the issue in the near future of a formal recommendation to the effect that the forum should be mainstreamed. In preparation for this, my Department is in consultation with the Department of Environment and Local Government and with the Garda authorities with a view to establishing the most appropriate procedures and structures necessary to facilitate the mainstreaming of this project.
