Vol. 556 No. 3

Written Answers. - Insurance Industry.

Jim O'Keeffe

Ceist:

113 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if the action plan of the Motor Insurance Advisory Board, and in particular the proposals to set up a personal injuries assessment board, will be independently examined and assessed by an Oireachtas committee. [20273/02]

The action plan to give effect to the 67 recommendations of the Motor Insurance Advisory Board was prepared by a high level implementation group comprising civil servants from the various Departments concerned, a representative from IBEC and the Consumers' Association of Ireland and the chairperson of the board. The action plan sets out, in respect of each recommendation, the body responsible for implementation, the action to be taken, the target timeframe for the action and the insurance industry's own estimate of the potential impact of implementation on premia costs. As the Government has decided that a personal injuries assessment board should be established, I will be bringing legislative proposals to that end to the Oireachtas in due course.
