Vol. 556 No. 3

Written Answers. - Work Permits.

Willie Penrose

Ceist:

144 Mr. Penrose asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if she will consider the curriculum vitae of a person (details supplied) in Canada in order for this person to visit here; the procedure for this person to come here to work, and join their partner, who is Irish; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [19845/02]

The Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform has statutory responsibility for all matters relating to qualification for entry visas, and further information on conditions attached to visas can be had from that Department.

While the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment facilitates entry to the State for the purposes of taking up employment, it does not get directly involved in the recruitment process, nor does it possess job vacancy information. The non-EEA national in question may wish to refer to the information leaflets on the Department's website (www.entemp.ie) concerning the work permit and the working visa/work authorisation scheme. These leaflets also contain some useful website addresses that provide information regarding job vacancies in Ireland. It is important to note that a central feature of the economic migration policy of this Department is that non-EEA nationals who wish to take up employment in the State must have first secured a job before making an application for permission to work under any of the economic migration schemes that it runs.
