176 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if gardaí in Cork have completed their investigation into altered passports and driving licences being used as fake identification; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20930/02]
I am informed by the Garda authorities that investigations undertaken in this jurisdiction regarding the use of re-issued Irish birth certificates for long deceased children for the purpose of obtaining false United Kingdom passports included the search of premises in Cork City by members of an Garda Síochána. I am further informed that, as a result of this investigation, a number of persons have been convicted and received terms of imprisonment in the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland.
