Vol. 556 No. 5

Written Answers. - Departmental Expenditure.

Richard Bruton

Ceist:

51 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he has carried out an expenditure review of his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20672/02]

The Government has decided that a system of expenditure reviews will be implemented in all Departments in the context of the strategic management initiative. Under the system, it is envisaged that expenditure reviews will be undertaken in all areas of expenditure over a rolling period. Expenditure reviews have been completed in respect of Teagasc, Bord Bia, Bord Glas, REPS and the Land Commission expenditure programmes in my Department. Under the latest round, which runs between 2002 and 2004, expenditure reviews will cover the areas of beef classification, the purchase for destruction scheme, the installation aid scheme, the potato sector, the international co-operation food aid programme, the early retirement scheme, farm waste management, control of horses, compensatory allowances, BSE eradication and the school milk scheme.
