Vol. 557 No. 3

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Denis Naughten

Ceist:

172 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Education and Science if his primary building unit will approve funding for Abbey national school, County Roscommon; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22101/02]

Architectural planning for a building project at Abbey national school, Co Roscommon is at an advanced stage. Decisions on projects proceeding to tender and construction in 2003 will be taken in the light of the annual allocation for primary school buildings, taking into account the contractual commitments to be met on projects approved and the priority to be afforded to individual projects.

Ceist:

173 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Education and Science if his primary building unit will approve funding for Gaelscoil an Longfoirt; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22102/02]

My Department has received an application from Gaelscoil an Longfoirt for a new school building on a greenfield site. My Department has an extensive primary school building programme under way at present and this includes a large number of projects at various stages of architectural planning, details of which are available on my Departments website at www.education.ie. Decisions on additional projects proceeding to architectural planning are taken in the light of the annual allocation for capital projects, the financial commitments to be met and the priority to be afforded to individual projects. The programme for 2002 is in place and the schools concerned have been notified.

Question No. 174 answered with Question No. 168.
