Vol. 557 No. 3

Written Answers. - Hospital Facilities.

John Perry

Ceist:

184 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Health and Children his plans to provide capital funding for the North Western Health Board for the provision of a multi-storey car park facility on a public private partnership; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that in the absence of capital funding to redress the major car parking and traffic management difficulties at the general hospital it had to award a contract to a company (details supplied) to implement car park charges; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22040/02]

It is not uncommon for a private company to operate a public private partnership, PPP, for a car park facility on a public hospital site. Where this is possible and provides value for money I see no reason why, in principle, such a scheme should not be considered. I understand that the North Western Health Board is preparing a PPP submission for such a facility to my Department.
