Vol. 557 No. 3

Written Answers. - Fire Stations.

Eamon Gilmore

Ceist:

248 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs the position regarding funding for a new fire station on Arranmore Island, County Donegal. [21986/02]

The provision of fire fighting facilities is, in the first instance, a matter for the local authorities. In February of this year, however, my Department received an application from Donegal County Council for funding for the provision of, among other facilities, a small fire station on Arranmore Island at an estimated cost of €50,000. This application is currently being examined by my officials in the context of other applications received and the funding available to me for island development purposes.
