Vol. 557 No. 4

Written Answers. - Death Sentence.

Mary Upton

Ceist:

201 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will make representations to the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding the death sentence passed on a person (details supplied). [22408/02]

Gay Mitchell

Ceist:

204 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will examine and raise the case of a person (details supplied). [22702/02]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 201 and 204 together.

I am aware of this case and I share the widely held concern about the conviction and the sentence. I was glad to hear that Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei has announced that the case will be reviewed. EU High Representative Solana met the Iranian Foreign Minister on 18 November and is reporting to the General Affairs and External Relations Council on 18-19 November. The EU will continue to monitor this case closely.
