Written Answers. - Forest Inventory.
My Department currently has data relating to location and broad species information on the private forest estate. However, this important data alone does not constitute a forest inventory in the absence of volumetric data. Consideration is being given to the undertaking of a sample field survey in 2003 to represent the entire national estate. Such a survey would provide the necessary volumetric data as well as information on biodiversity and forest health.
