Ceist:

358 Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin asked the Minister for Health and Children the amount of money which was spent on health promotion in 2001; the projected expenditure on health promotion in 2002; and the amount spent on each campaign which was run by the health promotion unit in the past five years and a breakdown of payments to advertising agencies or marketing agencies for each of these campaigns. 359 Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin asked the Minister for Health and Children if he has taken steps to assess the effectiveness, to date, of the Government Health Promotion Strategy; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22552/02]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 358 and 359 together.

A mid term review of the health promotion strategy 2000-05 to measure progress on the implementation of the strategy is currently under way and it is hoped to have a report on progress made to date in the new year. The health promotion unit budget for 2001 was €6.89 million and for 2002 was €7.858 million. The expenditure on each of the unit's campaigns in the past five years was as follows:
