361 Mr. Connolly asked the Minister for Health and Children the position regarding the joint commissioning by the Departments of Health both North and South, of a feasibility study of an all-Ireland helicopter emergency medical service as part of planning for major emergencies. [22554/02]

My Department and the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety (Belfast) have commissioned a feasibility study and report to be undertaken on the costs and benefits associated with the introduction of a dedicated helicopter emergency medical services for the island of Ireland. The consultants undertaking the study anticipate that it will be completed towards year end.
