Vol. 557 No. 4

Written Answers. - Drug Treatment Services.

Mary Wallace

Ceist:

364 Ms M. Wallace asked the Minister for Health and Children the funding his Department, either directly or through the health boards, is providing to the Ashling Group for their work with drug users; and the further funding which might be available from his Department or the health boards to assist this group with their invaluable work. [22677/02]

The provision of funding for voluntary agencies is the statutory responsibility of the health boards. I have been informed by the North Eastern Health Board that funding in the region of €29,330 was provided to the Ashling Group in 2002 to assist them in their work with drug misusers. In addition Bradan House, which is a day care facility run by the Ashling Group, received €27,298.80 in 2002.

Funding for drug services for 2003 is being considered as part as the annual budgetary process. The issue of prioritisation within funding allocated for this area is a matter for the North Eastern Health Board and will be addressed in its service plan for the coming year.
