Vol. 557 No. 4

Written Answers. - General Practitioner Services.

Paul Kehoe

Ceist:

368 Mr. Kehoe asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to the fact that some money has already been invested into introducing Caredoc into County Wexford; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22681/02]

A total of €17.2 million was made available in 2002 for the development of general practice out of hours co-operatives, of which €2.222 million was made available to the South Eastern Health Board. My Department has been informed by the South Eastern Health Board that approximately €150,000 of their 2002 allocation was spent on initial work to facilitate the proposed extension of Caredoc into Wexford. My Department has also been informed that the full year cost of extending Caredoc into Wexford would require additional funding of some €1.645 million, of which €725,000 represents capital expenditure. The South Eastern Health Board has assured my Department that it is willing to work with the general practitioners involved to try to resolve any issues outstanding.
