Vol. 557 No. 4

Written Answers. - RAPID Programme.

Fergus O'Dowd

Ceist:

387 Mr. O'Dowd asked the Minister for Transport the moneys available in his Department for the RAPID programme; the requests he has received for funding of the RAPID programme; the funding which has been granted to the RAPID programme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22672/02]

As the Deputy is aware, there is no specific separate funding allocated to the RAPID programme. The RAPID programme is aimed at prioritising national development plan funding to various disadvantaged neighbourhoods in large urban areas. Under the scheme, Bus Éireann introduced a new route in Cork city, southern orbital bus service, on a pilot basis. The Department provided funding of €288,000 towards the project.

The attached table lists project applications in respect of Strand 2 provincial centres which have just been received from Area Development Management Limited, who run the RAPID programme. My Department will be in discussion with the agencies involved to gather details of these projects with a view to progressing them.
