Ceist:414 Mr. Crowe asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of Garda cars which have been damaged in the Tallaght area in the past five years. [22533/02]

I am advised by the Garda authorities that the information sought by the Deputy is as follows. In 1997, there were 20 instances of malicious damage involving 12 vehicles and six official accidents involving six vehicles. In 1998, there were 18 instances of malicious damage involving 11 vehicles and nine official accidents involving nine vehicles. In 1999, there were 13 instances of malicious damage involving 12 vehicles and four official accidents involving four vehicles. In 2000, there were seven instances of malicious damage involving six vehicles and 16 official accidents involving 15 vehicles. In 2001, there were five instances of malicious damage involving four vehicles and 12 official accidents involving 12 vehicles. So far in 2002, there have been eight instances of malicious damage involving eight vehicles and seven official accidents involving six vehicles. There have been 125 instances of damage, either malicious or as a result of an official accident, to patrol cars in the Tallaght area since 1997, involving a total of 105 vehicles.
