Vol. 557 No. 4

Written Answers. - Garda Recruitment.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

437 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if and when a person (details supplied) in County Kildare, who sat the Garda entrance exam some time ago and needs to make a career decision, is likely to be called to the training college in 2002 or in 2003; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22704/02]

Recruitment to the Garda Síochána is by open competition conducted by the Civil Service and Local Appointments Commissioners. I, as Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform, have no function in the selection process.

I understand, however, that it is open to the person referred to in the question to contact the Civil Service and Local Appointments Commissioners directly about the matter.
