Ceist:

454 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if funding will be provided for remedial works to the Arklow water supply scheme. [22275/02]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 441 and 454 together.

The Arklow water supply scheme, stage 3, has been approved for construction under my Department's Water Services Investment Programme 2002-04. The preliminary report for the overall scheme was approved in March 2001 and contract documents for the development and testing of the proposed water source were approved in February 2002.
On 12 November 2002, my Department received a request for funding from Arklow Town Council for interim works at the existing Arklow water treatment plant. Additional information has been requested from the council and the matter will be further examined on receipt of the council's response.
