80 Ms Burton asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources the progress made to date in implementing the recommendations made in the report of the Forum on Broadcasting; his plans for a new broadcasting authority; if it is intended to introduce a customer's charter; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I received the report of the Forum on Broadcasting in mid August. Following its publication, I then placed a notice in the national media seeking comments from interested parties by the end of September. I am currently considering the recommendations of the forum in conjunction with the submissions I have received. I will bring forward my proposals in the near future.
As regards specific recommendations of the forum relating to a charter for RTE, a code of fair trading practice and a viewers-listeners council, I can confirm that my Department is considering these matters in the context of the future funding of RTE.
