Vol. 557 No. 4

Written Answers. - Port Development.

Róisín Shortall

Ceist:

92 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources when he expects to receive the report of the consultants appointed to consider ways of reducing container traffic from Dublin Port through the city centre; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22349/02]

In relation to the reduction of container traffic from Dublin Port, my predecessor requested Dublin Port Company to commission an independent study on the issue. In particular, the consultants would examine the feasibility of locating a container-storage facility for Dublin Port traffic on the periphery close to the M50, connected to the port, preferably by rail with an operational capacity to work off-schedule.

I am advised by Dublin Port Company that its tender process for the selection of consultants is now complete. Posford Haskoning in association with Raymond Burke Consulting, Farrell Grant Sparks Corporate Finance and Jones Lang have been appointed to carry out the study which I am advised is expected to commence early next year.
