Vol. 557 No. 4

Written Answers. - Departmental Report.

Joe Sherlock

Ceist:

100 Mr. Sherlock asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources the main findings of the report commissioned by his Department on the measures required to decontaminate the site of the former Ispat steel works in Cork Harbour; when the process will begin; the likely cost; if costs will be recovered from Ispat; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22357/02]

The report referred to by the Deputy has been prepared, on behalf of the Departments concerned, in connection with legal proceedings under company law instituted by the liquidator of Irish Ispat. The liquidator is seeking to be permitted to disclaim a lease granted to the company in 1996 on the grounds that it contains onerous conditions.

As this matter is currently before the courts, it would not be appropriate for me to disclose its contents at this point.
