437 Mr. P. McGrath asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform further to Parliamentary Question No. 414 of 12 November 2002, the number of serving gardaí who are currently absent from duty for more than two weeks due to illness or medical grounds, suspension or disciplinary measures or allegations of bullying at work; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I have been informed by the Garda authorities that as at 7 November 2002, 254 gardaí – all ranks – were absent from duty for more than two weeks on medical grounds. Six of these involve an allegation of bullying. A further 11 members were suspended from duty.
