Vol. 558 No. 5

Written Answers. - Health Precautions.

Jack Wall

Ceist:

299 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Health and Children if funding will be provided to ensure that teachers and special needs assistants in mainstream schools which incorporate autistic classes, receive the necessary immunisation and health procedures; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25058/02]

It is the responsibility in the first instance of the board of management of a school as an employer, to determine, with advice from relevant health officials, the appropriate health precautions, if any, required for staff working with children with autism.

In relation to special schools or special classes for children with autism and other categories of children with special needs, it is then a matter for the relevant health board to agree the implementation of any recommendations which may be made with the school.
