Vol. 558 No. 5

Written Answers. - Community Welfare Services.

Jack Wall

Ceist:

300 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to the fact that families have to travel 15 miles or more by taxi to attend community welfare clinics; if his attention has further been drawn to the fact that this is causing great financial strain on the families involved; the action his Department will take to alleviate the problem; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25059/02]

The provision of community welfare services, and any matters relating to such provision, within its functional area, is a matter for the relevant health board or the Eastern Regional Health Authority. In the case of Casledart and district this responsibility lies with the ERHA.

In the circumstances my Department has requested its regional chief executive to reply direct to the Deputy.
