Vol. 558 No. 5

Written Answers. - Brucellosis Incidence.

Martin Ferris

Ceist:

139 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food his views on the fact that brucellosis has spread across the Border; and his further views on the part played in that by the approach adopted to the problem by his Department. [25174/02]

My Department has no evidence to indicate that brucellosis has spread from Northern Ireland and the low incidence of the disease in the Border counties would seem to confirm this assessment. However, there is no room for complacency. A range of control measures are in place and these must be fully implemented in order to maintain the momentum towards the eradication of this disease.
