Vol. 559 No. 1

Written Answers. - Health and Safety Matters.

Breeda Moynihan-Cronin

Ceist:

146 Ms B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the number of primary and secondary schools which are being investigated by the Health and Safety Authority; the names and addresses of those schools; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [25863/02]

The monitoring and inspection of workplaces is a day-to-day matter for the authority in which I have no direct function. However, I have been informed by the authority that their inspectors inspected 19 primary schools and 30 secondary schools in 2002 – as at 9/12/02 – which resulted in 112 visits. These inspections reviewed workplace conditions for teachers and ancillary staff, and also monitored conditions for construction employees on the school grounds that were involved in building work.

The Deputy may contact the HSA directly for the information requested.
